Success of Lorestan University Central Laboratory in Producing "Saturated Phenol"

Jul 17, 2022

Lorestan University Central Laboratory has successfully produced "Saturated Phenol Solution," which is applicable for a wide range of biological and molecular work.

According to the Public Relations Department of Lorestan University, Dr. Ali Farmani, Head of the Lorestan University Central Laboratory, announced this news in an interview with our reporter, and discussed the nature of the saturated phenol solution (Equilibrated phenol). He stated, "Saturated phenol solution can be used for a wide range of molecular biology work, including the extraction of DNA and RNA."

Dr. Farmani explained, "In the extraction method with phenol, compounds are separated based on their solubility, and it is used for extracting a wide range of materials, including nucleic acids."

He elaborated, "Phenol is soluble in water; therefore, saturated phenol solutions (saturated phenol) are made, which are used in molecular biology."

The Head of the Lorestan University Central Laboratory continued, "Different types of saturated phenol include: phenol saturated with water, which has a pH=6.6 and is used for extracting RNA and DNA; the second type: phenol saturated with citrate, which has a pH=4.3 and is used in the extraction of nucleic acids. The third type is phenol saturated with Tris, which has a pH of about 8 and is used for DNA extraction."

It is worth noting that the Lorestan University Central Laboratory operates under the supervision of the Vice-Chancellor for Research and Technology of this university.
